Guber Polls: New National Anthem Proposed as reaction trails Saturday’s election

The winners of last Saturday’s elections held in Kogi and Bayelsa States has finally been decided with PDP losing both elections by a wider margin to the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This means incumbent governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has successfully secured a second term in office, while David Lyon will mount the throne for his first term in office, as Bayelsa Governor.
The election which led to the emergence of the aforementioned persons however, did not come without blemishes though. There were reports of irregularities during and after the elections prior to the announcement of the winners.

Violence and thuggery aside, there were also allegations of vote manipulations during collation of results. The PDP had while collation was still ongoing similarly to that of the presidential election, rejected the results being announced claiming they were altered in favour of the APC.

There were also wide condemnations of the election across board, and calls for complete cancelation of the entire process, but which unsurprisingly, fell into deaf ears.

As for the aggrieved parties, whether or not they trust the courts, is not the issue. INEC is done with the election as far as the commission is concerned.

Nigerians on their part, will react as expected. One user named Comrade Abdulazeez Ahmed, said since there's nothing anyone can do about how elections are now won and lost in the country, he's proposing a new National Anthem he believes would match the new order established by the Buhari administration.

In a comment posted on NTA's official Facebook page, Ahmed wrote:

Congratulations to Yahaya Bello for your victory at the just concluded Kogi State governorship elections. You have shown that with guns and violence, everything is possible.

Congratulations to the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmud. Oga, you have done it again.

Congratulations to Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that Bello was reelected against the will of his people and at the expense of the bloods of innocent Kogites.

I will now propose the following, that the Nigerian National Anthem be amended to read like this:

"Arise, O compromised, Buhari's call obey
To serve his selfish interest
With fear and pain and trembling
The labours of our heroes past
Has now been made in vain
To serve with tears and sorrow
One nation bound in prison, crises and disunity"

And the National Pledge to read:

"I pledge to Buhari the tyrant
To be faithful, loyal and subdued
To serve Buhari with all my fears
To defend his interest
And uphold his hypocrisy and deception
So help me Bubu"

While this is in no way a form of endorsement from us, we do however, in accordance to our "Critical Voices" policy on opinion pieces, consider it worthy of being published.
