Civil society kicks as INEC declares Yahaya Bello winner of Kogi Guber Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yahaya Bello, winner of the Kogi state governorship election.

Yahaya Bello is the incumbent Governor of the state.



Bello polled 406,222 votes to defeat Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 189,704, and Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who got 9,482.

The governor won in 12 local government areas out of the 21 in the state after which he was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). TheCable reports




The conduct of the election, which was held on Saturday, has been criticised by some civil society organisations which monitored the exercise.

YIAGA AFRICA, a civil society organisation (NGO), said political parties and security agencies compromised the credibility of the governorship and senatorial elections in the state.


It also asked INEC to conduct a new election, saying Saturday’s did not reflect the votes of the people, irrespective of the results.
