A group of Nigerian military officers, calling themselves the 'Concerned Patriotic Military Officers,' have issued a warning to the Presidency, Service Chiefs and Senate. They have threatened to force a radical revolution to save Nigeria if the ‘monumental corruption’ in the military is not checked forthwith.
The group has called for the probe of service chiefs, past and present, irrespective of their political affiliation. They accuse them of buying refurbished equipment as new and failing the country. They also claim that there are killings across the country because some military men are colluding with criminals and only working for their own interests and those of their godfathers and godsons.
The officers warned that even politicians would not be safe when the looming calamity is upon the country. They vowed that "if this evil continues, we will force a radical revolution to save Nigeria. As you read this, just wait for tips on how to make your attacks more potent. Stop killing innocent Nigerians."
The group stated that they were concerned to hear that the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.) was looking for an appointment in Tinubu's administration. They accused him of crushing the army and making it useless by stealing money and awarding contracts to his own company.
The officers also asked soldiers at the front to stop fighting if their colleagues in air-conditioned offices cannot be part of it. They suggested that if soldiers cannot work together, they should form a state army. They claimed that soldiers who present issues become the bad ones, and also officers who are treated poorly cannot speak up.
The group warned civilians that they are being marginalized and must rise up and challenge this monster. They added that the army will soon collapse if this continues because the structure is already failing.
Overall, the group's letter is a serious warning about corruption and mismanagement in the Nigerian military. The issues they raise are significant, and it is important that they are addressed before the situation deteriorates further.
