JUST IN: INEC declares Anambra Guber election inconclusive as APGA maintains lead

INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Anambra governorship election inconclusive.

This is owing to the inability of the commission to deploy staff and materials to Ihiala Local Government Area, as a result of security threat.

Returning officer in the election, Prof. Florence Obi said the election would now hold on Tuesday, November 9, to complement the 20 local government areas election result, already announced.

Obi said: “we have collated results for 20 local government areas, and Ihiala is still outstanding as the commission was unable to deploy to the area.

“Based on constitutional provision, supplementary election will be held in Ihiala. So, we have to conclude the election in Ihiala to be able to conclude the process.

“I plead with you to support INEC, so we can bring this election to a conclusion, to the glory of God. The election for Ihiala will hold on November 9.”

Meanwhile, Charles Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has maintained his lead in Saturday's election in Anambra State.

This comes as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced the official collation of results from the various local government areas in the state.

Soludo has so far won in about twenty local government areas whose results have officially been collated by INEC.

In another department The collation officer for Orumba North local government area of Anambra State, Michael Otu, has claimed that he was forced to signed the election result.

He further accused officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) attached to him of conniving with those who disrupted the electoral process.

He said his experience on the field was pathetic but “I thank God I’m alive. I signed the results, but I didn’t believe in the results".

“An INEC staff, Assistant Collation Officer, turned me to her house boy. I was monitored around, I signed the result because I saw my life was in danger,” he added.
