Governor Nasir El-Rufai |
Series of attacks has been going on in Southern Kaduna communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen which claim the lives of over 63 farmers unabated.
On July 21, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, issued a statement saying the recent kiIIings in Kaduna are motivated by politics and revenge.
The presidency said the situation in that part of the state is more complicated than what most people think, and that southern Kaduna enjoys comprehensive security deployments.
“From available security records, the problem in Southern Kaduna is an evil combination of politically - motivated killings and mutual violence by criminal gangs acting on ethnic and religious grounds,” Shehu had said.
The state governor, Nasir el-Rufai, also said though the kiIIings are usually given ethnic and religious undertones, the bandits still “attack people irrespective of their religion or ethnicity”.
He also blame the southern Kaduna youths of attacking innocent Fulani herdsmen in the name of reprisal.
However, a statement issued by MYFOSKA and signed by its National Chairman, Mohammed Kabir Bello, stated that Muslims have found themselves in the middle of a guerrilla attack and silent kiIIings in different parts of Southern Kaduna.
“Whenever there is a rumour of any form of attack in the area, the Muslims become victims, roadblocks will be mounted and any Muslim on transit will be kiIIed,” he said.
The group said five people were ambushed and kiIIed in July including the former Secretary to the District Head of Dangoma, Sallau Musa, who was kiIIed while on his way from Kafanchan to Dangoma on July 22, 2020. “This brings the total number of more than 100 people kiIIed while on transit since 2016,” the group said.
