PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan |
Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the PDP, who announced this in a statement on Saturday, said it is in honour of all those killed in last week’s election.
He said Nigerians have completely lost faith in the nation’s electoral process under this government.
“For us in the PDP and, we believe, to majority of Nigerians as well, Professor Yakubu is the worst electoral umpire in the political history of our nation, Ologbondiyan said.
“Furthermore, the police and the military high commands have been reduced to tools of election brutality to ensure that votes do not count. Even the Police high command has openly admitted that the police is incapable of protecting voters and votes; thus validating the reported involvement of security agents in the brutalization of voters and disruption of electoral process.
Meanwhile, Comrade Salihu Adam Jiddah, convener of Kogi Liberation Movement (KLM), has called for the immediate resignation of the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu for bringing shame to the Nigerian Electoral system since he took over from his predecessor Prof Atahiru Jega in 2015.
Comrade Jiddah made the call in a petition he made available to newsmen on Saturday.
He alleged that, today’s INEC under the watch of Prof Yakubu, was aiding rigging, abetting criminality, thumb printing of ballot papers in private residence for politician, disqualification of candidate to create save landing for some politicians.
According to him, politicians are very safe to perpetrate violence and yet come out victorious because they have INEC to announce them.
Jiddah also faulted the INEC chairman for allegedly announcing wrong results and adding values to political parties saying “the case in Kogi where election was rig and yet about 13-14 thousand votes were added by INEC to the purported Governor Elect”.
