Until we have good governance, all the evils we feared will continue to visit our homes — Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan advocates for good governance.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented the poor relations between African countries noting that leaders have failed to build hope in the lives of their people. This according to the former President, has played a great role in the current dilemma facing the African continent as citizens are now "confronted with agonizing realities of despair."

He said as long as the African continent is bereft of good governance, all the things we feared will continue to visit our homes.

He said, "Let me affirm that African leaders must avoid situations where citizens are confronted with agonizing realities of despair; where justice is dispensed at the discretion of those in authority. I therefore, submit that good governance, where peace and security reign, is the pathway to a peaceful continent.

"For peace to thrive, we must first build hope in the lives of the people because hope inspires love, love promotes peace, peace engenders
justice while justice guarantees freedom and trust. These universal virtues are central to our quest for a peaceful and prosperous continent."

The former president made the speech at the Summit of Peace, Unity and Sustainable Development, in Sao Tome yesterday.
