The appointment of former Central Bank Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was met by both positive and negative reactions considering Soludo's relation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Soludo who is considered one of the best central bank governors in the country and in Africa during his time at the helm of Nigeria's apex bank, has been charged by concerned Nigerians to reject his new appointment as a member of the newly-constituted Presidential Economic Advisory Council. They argued that Soludo who is revered by many, should not allow himself be stained by an administration that has not the masses at heart, and no regard for the rule of law.
However, while the reactions continue to pour from different quarters, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has given its full support and seal of approval for Soludo's appointment provided his membership of the party is not tampered with.
In a statement by the national chairman, Dr. Victor Ike Oye, in Abuja yesterday 17th September, 2019, Victor congratulated Prof. Soludo on the appointment and warned detractors against politicizing his appointment.
Soludo is a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of APGA and is also among the party’s leaders in Anambra State.
Oye according to Daily Trust, said the appointment is well-deserved, timely and auspicious. He said, “Detractors who might want to politicize the appointment of Soludo who is a strong member of APGA should be warned. The party threw its weight behind the appointment.”
