Ministerial Screening is a show of shame — Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has described the screening of ministerial nominees by the 9th senate as a show of shame and a disgrace to Nigeria.

The former Minister recall that in 2006 when he was nominated as minister, he was screened by the senate for more than two hours and there was no question he did not answer.

But the current senate under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, according to him has adopted "smile, show your teeth, bow and go" system which can not be regarded as screening.

"When I was nominated to be a Minister by President Olusegun Obasanjo 13 years ago in 2006 I was screened by the Senate for no less than two hours and thirty gruelling and very difficult minutes on live television." He said

"There is no question that they did not ask me and there is none that I did not answer.

"In those days days the Senate had great men and powerful intellectuals in its ranks. What we see today in the name of Ministerial screening is a pitiful joke.

"Smile, show your teeth, bow and go" is NOT screening: it is a shameless and crass display of comic relief which is far below the hitherto reverred institution like the Nigerian Senate.

Earlier, Senator Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West has also condemned the "bow and go" screening system, saying that he would not be part of rubber stamp Senate.
