The Senator representing Yobe North federal constituency, Senator Ahmed Lawan, has emerged the President of the ninth Senate with 79 votes defeating Ali Ndume of Borno South senatorial district who polled 28 votes.
The outcome of the election shows that 17 senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP voted for Lawan against the directive of the party.
