Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu, has struggled to keep his eyes open during a meeting with the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, as concerns over his age and health remains a hot topic ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
According to People's Gazette, Tinubu who was in Gombe State primarily to attend the wedding of Misbahu Inuwa Yahaya, son of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, also stopped by for a brief homage and political meeting at the Emir’s Palace.
Sources familiar with the matter as per the Gazette, said the APC presidential candidate was caught sleeping while Mr Lawan was holding the microphone addressing attendees at the emir’s living room.
It was not immediately clear why Mr Tinubu dozed off, but speculations are rife on social media about the development, with critics saying it marked another evidence of his weakness while his supporters said he was barely ‘meditating’.
Tinubu who claims to be 70 years old, has been deemed too old and weak for the top job as Nigerians seek to avoid another repeat of President Muhammadu Buhari who spent significant part of his presidency outside the country over heath issues.
Tinubu has earlier in the year, became a topic of discussion on social media when a photo of him with his cloth wet from behind, went viral, with many claiming that he is suffering from a urinary condition.
Tinubu who remainned adamant that he's still capable of leading the country, argued that the job of the president requires more intelligence than physical strength.
The APC leader has since won the APC’s presidential ticket, and will head into next year's poll as the only candidate whose running mate is from the same Muslim faith.
