A former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, and self-proclaimed 'Table Shaker', Reno Omokri, has been slammed by Nigerians over his tweet where he used presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, to justify the fall of the Nigerian currency against the US dollar.
In his tweet, Omokri claims Nigerians complaining about the collapse of the Naira, forgot that Peter Obi, whom many think is the best presidential candidate heading into next year's presidential election, is also responsible for fall each time he brings a ship loaded with foreign goods into the country.
You are complaining that Naira is now ₦705 to $1. How do you think that happened? It is not only Buhari’s fault. Every time @PeterObi brings a ship loaded with foreign goods into Nigeria, he is driving down the value of the Naira. Importers are killing the Naira!#TableShaker

However, in reaction to his tweet, many questioned his mental state, arguing that Omokri should have known better than Obi is not among the major importers of foreign goods into the country, and that even if that were the case, it is not an excuse for the Naira's collapse since even major economies like the US and China also import products from other countries.

Consumers preference for imported good to locally made goods. (Government responsibility)
How many Nigerians buy or use made in Nigeria cars or commodities? The government has a huge role to play in that regard.
Ifeanyi Udeoka in his response, attributed the Naira's fall to bad economic policies.
He wrote," 'Importers are killing Naira' Bad economic policies are killing production, hence the resort to importation.
"No importer enjoys importation, it cost more to buy importer goods and less to made in Nigeria goods.
"Bad electricity, Heavy taxation, Bad economic policies, Bad road network, Non availability of raw materials, Consumers preference for imported good to locally made goods. (Government responsibility)

D' Worshipper in his own response wrote, "So, peter Obi is the only importer in Nigeria? Hope you know that 80% of lecturers in Atiku private university are foreigners. As a matter of fact, the Vice Chancellor of the university is a white man. Have you also condemned that?"
Onye-Kachi wrote, "The biggest import countries are the US, China, Japan and Germany. These countries have the biggest economies in the world and some of the strongest currencies. Naira is falling not because Nigeria is importing, but because Nigeria has failed to balance her imports with exports."

I am certain, you need mental help. How does it make sense to you that Obi's import as an individual, has any significant impact on the Naira when almost everything in the country is imported? Do you have to use Obi to justify the Naira's fall?

"Or you don’t know government are making money from imported goods? All those custom payments where do you think it’s going... I think you are brilliant or do you think Nigeria products are not in abroad too.. you fail on this one Oga ade!! Use something else to tackle OBI."
