2023: We will not waste our votes — Wike sends cryptic message to Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, appears to have sent a cryptic message to Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, whom he's yet to reconcile with following the outcome of the PDP's presidential primary, and the choice of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as running mate.

Wike in a statement on Monday, during the inauguration of the Orochiri-Worukwo (Waterlines junction) Flyover, said Rivers State will not waste its votes on candidates who have no respect for the State, or that will use and dump the State after getting what they want.

According to the Governor, only presidential candidates who value the State and it's people, deserves the support of the people. Otherwise, they will be rejected at the polls.

He said, “If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don’t also matter at the appropriate time. If you don’t like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.

“Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support.

“Politics now is no longer just vote for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State.”

It is unclear whether or not Wike's statement is directly aimed at Atiku. His statement however, does suggest that a disregard for him, is tantamount to disregard for Rivers State.
