The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said the Presidential candidate of the Labour party, Mr Peter Obi, is likely to emerge victorious in next year's presidential election because from the look of things at the moment, almost everyone in the country is talking about him.
Obaseki who made the shocking statement in an interview with African Independent Television on the just concluded Ekiti governorship election, revealed that the future of politics in the country was changing.
The Edo governor said, “How can PDP, the party; not win? They were not even number two. So, you can see that something is going on and we do not want this to be a trend. The future of our politics in this country is changing.
“I do not know whether you are closely watching what is going on; the level of disenchantment within the parties. I am sure in all of our homes now, we have so many people now who call themselves ‘Obidients’.
“I don’t know whether you have them in your house. Just ask them, ‘which party are you?’, they say ‘Obidients’; you understand. They do not want us; they are not talking about PDP or APC. They are looking for alternatives and they are many. You see all of them queuing for their PVCs now. They are not looking at the direction of PDP or APC now. They are looking for alternatives.
“If we do not curb this, if we do not make our party attractive, I do not know what will happen in the next elections.”
Meanwhile, Obi at a recent conference organized by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja, said the country has been hijacked by people who should never have been anywhere near the seat power.
He said these crop of politicians do not care about the people but their own pockets. He warned that unless the people rise against this evil plaguing the country and force a change, things would only get worse for everyone.
He said: “We can’t allow this gangsterism to continue, Nigerians should take back their country. 70 percent of those who are in politics today should not have any reason to be there. I have said it, politics in Nigeria is a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum.
“This is the only country where the worst is leading. I was a trader and gradually entered into politics. When you take far more than you need, you are sick.
“How do you explain that one person took N80 billion, it is not greed, it is sickness. When you take one billion that is greed, but when you take N80 billion that is sickness. Mad people have taken over our politics. If we get young people with the competence and capacity to be there, things will change.”
On his chances of winning the election, he said he is not expecting next year's election to be easy considering he'd be up against powerful opponents who would do all in their powers to win the election.
He however, believes Nigerians who have endured enough pains and disappointments for the past years, would want to force a change.
