At this time last year, the former Special Adviser on Politics to the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, Late Ahmed Gulak, was still alive and strong, until a trip to Imo State, cost him his life in May 2021.
Not until recently, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been fingered for the murder of the late Adamawa politician according to PRNigeria citing a Nigerian Intelligence officer. Although, IPOB denied the allegation.
President Muhammadu Buhari had vowed to bring to book those responsible for the murder of Gulak.
“I’m repulsed by such premeditated and gruesome murder of Gulak by evil people who are determined to undermine the peace, unity and territorial integrity of our country.
“Let me warn however that nobody or group of people who engages in such despicable acts should expect to go free. We will deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that such callous and criminal elements are brought to justice,” Buhari said in a statement through his Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu.
While the Buhari administration was busy looking for the so-called 'unknown gunmen' it vowed to 'bring to book', attention soon shifted to Governor Hope Uzodimma whom activists said has questions to answer over the incident. But, to stop the matter from going any further, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police, Bala Elkana, soon disclosed that those behind the murder were armed bandits who were later caught up by the police and killed.
However, while it would appear as though justice has been served, over 6 months down the line, recent developments in Imo State following the arrest of Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, by the Imo State Police, and the naming of Okorocha as one of those sponsoring bandits and kidnappers, a huge can of warm was opened.
The former Imo State Governor who obviously was infuriated by the accusation, said it is time to "let the world know the truth" about the evils being perpetrated by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Okorocha said Uzodimma has overseen the killings of Ahmed Gulak, some traditional rulers and over 140 innocent people during the unknown gunmen reign.
He said, “Mr. Governor should tell the world, who killed Gulak? Who killed the traditional rulers? Who killed the 140 people? Who beheaded those beheaded and displayed their heads as if they had won trophy?”
He alleged that Uzodimma controls a killer squad whom he said the Governor takes with him wherever he goes.
“The governor goes with killer squad anywhere he goes. He was made the chairman of APC governorship campaign committee in Anambra state and there were killings there. Since the Anambra election was concluded, there has not been any killing there. And in Imo State, since those he sent to abduct Uche Nwosu in the Church had been unmasked, no killing has been recorded in Imo.
“Let the governor accept responsibility of what is happening in the state. This time, I want to come out to let the world know the truth. This time, I am out to expose the evil. He can no longer hide,” he stated.
