Buhari's technically defeated Boko Haram fighters, seem to be among those expecting the visit of the President who is expected to arrive Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in a matter of minutes.
According to Daily Trust, the attackers appeared to have targetted the city's airport as they struck 10:45am, having raided three communities at Ngomari airport general area in Maiduguri.
Citing local sources, the report says the attackers hit the communities with rocket launchers, killing unconfirmed number of people, destroying residential area and properties.
A resident said one of the rockets landed close to an office and two landed in Ngomari Ayashe community, killing four children, one in Moranti.
“I can confirm that a 16-year-old child, Walida, was affected in the attack. She died instantly; she was cooking when her head got destroyed by the rocket,” the resident said.
At least 25 persons reportedly sustained injuries in the attack, which the authorities are yet to comment on.
It is not the first time the terror group attacked with rockets, however. A previous attack by the group struck a 1000 Housing Estate in the Borno state's capital, while a rocket launcher used by the group landed at Gomari Airport, a community about four kilometres from the airport located in the state capital.
A military source said troops of 33 artillery, Njimtelo, opened fire when they sighted insurgents on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
The insurgents were said to have also engaged troops in a gun battle.
