Things certainly haven't been going well for National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, whose declaration to run for the presidency wasn't well received not only by Nigerians, but also political juggernauts from the North who seem to be as determined as Tinubu, to rule the country.
Recent developments in the country including power struggles between the north and south, and questions surrounding Tinubu's age and state of health, has all the more be clouded his chances of not only winning the APC presidential ticket for the 2023 election, but also the presidency.
But while it seems Tinubu is all but done politically, report suggests quite otherwise. It is believed that Tinubu is not only prepared to give his all to clinch the APC ticket, but should that fail to materialize, he'd consider dropping the broom for another party.
Tinubu has done so much for the APC, and is believed to be the powerful force that ensured Buhari enjoyed two terms in office despite all the resentment and disapproval from Nigerians, particularly from the Middle Belt and southern part of the country.
For all his efforts, the words 'nothing goes for nothing," is said to be in play, following reports of an existing secret arrangement for Tinubu to be Buhari's direct successor come 2023. But, while Tinubu is hoping things would work out in his favor, based on the so called secret agreement between him, Buhari and whoever was involved in the deal, Buhari seem to have something else in mind.
President Buhari in an interview with Arise Television on Thursday June 10, 2021, said “You cannot sit there in Lagos, for instance, and decide the fate of APC on zoning. Therefore we should allow the party to decide.”
The statement by Buhari was not well received by Tinubu's camp who believed the president was referring to Tinubu, who is perhaps the most powerful member of the party that lives in Lagos.
Now according to a report by New Telegraph, citing sources close to Tinubu, the APC Leader is said consider going for plan B if Buhari fails to fulfill his own part of the bargain during the party primaries next year.
According to them, “we have thought of all these. We know what is going on in the presidency. If Buhari allows the prediction of some people that he will betray Tinubu to come to pass, then we will move to another party to actualise our aim.”
The sources said that fairness dictates that ‘one good turn deserves another,’ adding that Tinubu is the most qualified for the office of the president in the country at the moment and that he is unstoppable in 2023.
The sources posited that “Tinubu would turn Nigeria around the way he laid the foundation for a new Lagos from 1999 to 2007,” and that “posterity will judge if Tinubu actually means well for Nigeria.”
