I never knew Nigeria could become as bad as it is today — Atiku

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said in his over 70 years of existence, he has seen country go through terrible times, but never knew the country would be much worse than it ever was in its history, until the Buhari administration came to power in 2015.

Atiku who made the statement while addressing journalists, following his meeting with Rivers State Gov Nyesom Wike, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday, said the situation in the country is dire, and believes Nigerians are eager to get rid of the current administration come 2023.

The former PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 election, said the damage done by the APC administration, is an opportunity for the PDP to regain power at the center.

He therefore, explained that for the party to be properly positioned to win the next election, there's the need to reconcile touching issues, hence his visit to Port Harcourt and meeting with Governor Wike.

According to him, the issues discussed with the governor bothers on how to ensure unity and stability in the Peoples Democratic Party, which are critical for the party in clinching electoral victory in 2023.

He said, “Well, I came here to reconcile with the governor on party affairs and how we can ensure that there is unity and stability in the party.

“So, that we can take over government in 2023. I believe that Nigerians can’t wait for 2023 to come so that PDP will return.”

Atiku described the prevailing insecurity challenges in the country as bad.

He urged Nigerians to wait for the appropriate time when PDP shall unveil its policies on how it wants to address the issue of insecurity across the country.

“I have never seen it (insecurity) this bad. I am 70 years plus, I have never seen it this bad in terms of security challenges, in terms of economy, in terms of unemployment. This is the worst.

“Why can’t you give us time. We will come up with our policies. We will present them to Nigerians when the time comes.

“We have done that before. Under PDP, we recorded the highest economic growth, the best foreign reserves, we reduced unemployment. You know that we can do it?"
