We regret the mistake that brought APC to power — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed regrets that the failure of the party to live up to the expectations of Nigerians has forced them into making a huge mistake by voting APC to power.

The statement was made by the Lagos State chapter Chairman of the party, Deji Doherty, who said lessons have been learned, and Nigerians themselves have come to realize that despite the weaknesses of the PDP, life was still far much better than the pains and agony they endured since Buhari became president.

He assured Nigerians that getting rid of APC in 2023 is a must, and that the PDP will ensure that Nigerians never see the need to bring them back to power ever again.

Speaking at a town hall meeting, he said, “We understand perfectly the penury in the land and the reasons are not far fetched, howbeit, Nigerians shall see better days ahead if they would resist any form of inducement and intimidation from any person to buy their conscience.

“It’s good for people to make choices, then compare and contrast and make wiser decisions as it’s obvious today in the country. Nigerians have tested the PDP regime and this administration and others, now they can say without mincing words the difference between the right and wrong.

Doherty said the future of young people in the country, especially in Lagos State is not only bleak but hopeless given the glaring hostile socio-economic environment where businesses and corporate organisations are regrettably winding down due to illegal and multiple taxes (unaccounted for) and other unfounded policies and decisions of the government.

Meanwhile, Founder of Centre for Value in Leadership and the African Democratic Congress, Professor Patrick Utomi, has said election periods are meant to empower the people to vote in leaders who understand them, share their feelings, and fully represent their interests. However, in Nigeria, the people seem to be limited to moving from one problem after another every four years.

“In Nigeria, we don’t have a rational conversation that can help us.

“Nigeria is travelling in the wrong direction. This is really the problem. The gap between us and them is pushed in this emotional pulse.

“We seem to stumble from crisis to crisis. In Nigeria, everything you say that seems to be structured, people dismiss it. They say ‘Na grammar we go chop?’ They forgot that every action starts from a theory. But this anti-intellectual disposition, not thinking make us create mountains in a small manhole and put our country in a state of permanent crisis.

“We seem unable to have a rational conversation. Nigeria politics irritates, annoys me because it is not dealing with issues people are dealing with.

“The calibre of people who became politicians in Nigeria is a terrible mistake for our country. People have travelled from citizenship to idiocy,” Utomi said.
