Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, said political leaders in the country are as evil as the devil who pretends to care about people, but in reality, only takes advantage of them for his own gain.
He said these evil politicians have no conscience whatsoever, and believe voters are only useful when it comes election. He however, warned that Nigerians are now aware of the antics of these politicians, saying the day of reckoning is near.
Ayade, who has been having a running battle with some federal lawmakers from the state over the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in the state, said this at the flag-off of enrolment into the states’ Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
“After donations of Keke, they pay millions to national television to advertise instead of spending the money for the people.
“Let the politician show us what they have done for the people, stop abusing the poverty of the people, when the election comes you look for something to entice the people. When these people have accident, they don’t have health insurance. Politicians have no conscience. I challenge national assembly members to show the report card of what they have done.
“They never come to Calabar until during elections; the citizens are waiting for you to tell us what they have done,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has said that the UK will not tolerate corrupt politicians who see the UK as a safe haven to store their corruptly acquired wealth.
She stated this Tuesday at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Nigerian and UK Governments regarding the return and management of stolen assets recovered from former Delta State Governor, James Ibori and associates.
“The return of these assets to Nigeria has been subject to a number of hard-fought legal challenges by third parties which were defeated in the UK courts.
“We will ensure the full weight of law enforcement to crack down on those who use, move or hide their proceed of crime in the UK,” she said.
