A Fulani community in Kwara State, is demanding for compensation from the Oyo State whom they accused for not doing enough to call a self-acclaimed Yoruba Youth leader, Sunday Igboho, when he stirred youths against Fulani in the State.
Igboho, had at the time, given the Fulani herders in Igangan, in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State, a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the area over high rate of abductions.
After the expiration of the notice, he had stormed the settlement of Serikin Fulani, Alhaji Abdulkadir Saliu, to eject the herders there.
During the attack, houses and vehicles belonging to the Serikin Fulani were razed while the Fulani leader relocated to Ilorin, the state capital.
The Fulani community in Kwara has asked the Federal Government to investigate the attack, arrest and prosecute those culpable.
They said other Fulani settlements in the South-West that have suffered attacks should be compensated.
“We have discovered that all the allegations leveled against Sarkin Fulani of Igangan are false. Both the federal and Oyo state governments should compensate Sarikin for his properties that were destroyed when Sunday Igboho stormed his settlement,” read a communique jointly signed by leaders of the Joint Fulani Associations, Alhaji Sule Alfulani Bube, Chairman and Alhaji Magaji Salihu Ahmed, Secretary, at the end of their meeting in Kwara.
The Fulani community also vowed to flush out criminally-minded persons among them, while restating their commitment to peace.
The group said they had set up a screening and monitoring committee that will screen the Fulani people relocating to Kwara from neighbouring states.
“We call on government to come to the aid of the displaced Fulani people from the south- west while thanking both the federal and Kwara state governments for the relief items made available to the Fulani community but we still need more,” the communique read.
