Kayode is now an APC member Bello disclosed

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State says former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the assertion contrary to Fani-Kayode’s claim that he remained a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Fani-Kayode on Monday held a controversial meeting with Bello and Chairman of APC Caretaker Committe, Mai Mala Buni.

Soon after, however, reports began making the rounds on news platforms and social media, claiming the PDP chieftain is making moves to dump the PDP and return to his former party APC, a party he's been criticising for years.

In his reaction, the former minister was silent on whether or not the report about his plan defection to the ruling party after meeting with the party leaders is true. Although, he did said in a tweet, that any statement not explicitly made by him, or posted on his social pages, should be disregarded.

"I would advise Nigerians to be very wary about fake quotations that are being attributed to me concerning other political leaders in the country."

"If you did not read it on my verified twitter handle or my verified Facebook page then I NEVER said it." "Period." he wrote on Twitter

Period.

However, Bello countered the claim in a video shot during an APC event in Kogi and shared on Wednesday.

He said Fani-Kayode’s defection was one of his achievements as the chairman of the APC Women and Youth Sensitisation and Mobilisation Committee for the membership registration and revalidation exercise.

“Our brother and friend, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined our party in good faith. He is joining our party to come and add his own positive energy and make contributions to ensuring that APC is a party to beat.

“Remember, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress… Now he has decided to join our party, approched me and by the mandate giving to me by our party, I must not segregate,” Bello said.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo confirmed that the governor spoke the truth.
