The long debate on whether or not the man currently in charge of the country is truly Buhari, may have taken a new dimension as those from the North who could easily part your spirit from your body should you dare make such claim in their midst, are perhaps, now waking up to the reality that something about the man they voted for for two terms, is just not right.
Prior to his unfortunate demise due to complications caused by covid-19, late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, was at the time, believed to have been the de facto president, being the most powerful personality within the Buhari Presidency.
In fact, Kyari is said to have been so powerful that the office of the vice president was seemingly reduced to nothing. He knows more about the Presidency than the president and his vice combined. He was so influential, that he was conclusively regarded as Nigeria's problem. But, he's been gone for months now, yet Nigeria's problems refused to go away.
Surely, the views of many Nigerians regarding the late Chief of Staff may have changed since his death, but as far as the question of which version of the Buhari in Aso Rock is concerned, Kyari owes Nigerians an explanation even in death.
Buhari since his election in 2015, has suffered health problems which kept him out of the country for months. Rumor soon began to circulate that Buhari has died, and that the Buhari in Aso Rock is a fake one.
This claim of 'fake Buhari' is heavily pushed by the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, who went even further to name the 'fake Buhari' as 'Jubril Al-Sudani'.
Unsurprisingly, Kanu's claim was disregarded by the Presidency and the entirety of the North who would rather put their time and energy into better use than contend with the leader of a proscribed secessionist group.
However, with the North now faced with unprecedented security problems in addition to poverty among other issues, some are beginning to think out of the box, and demand answers from their leaders. The fact that a member of the All Progressives Congress representing Dawakin Tofa/Tofa and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, was attacked by angry youths in his constituency, over failed campaign promises, proves there's an awakening happening in the North.
The Buhari administration has lost the confidence of the North who now would rather have a president from the South, than root for one of their own whom they feel are no longer reliable.
The recent killing of 78 farmers by Boko Haram insurgents in Zamarmari, Borno State, is believed to be the last straw, as calls for Buhari's resignation is no longer considered an attack on the North, but a worthy call to save the country from total collapse.
Then comes what could land someone into trouble, but who is simply waking up to the crude reality that something in the Villa is just not right.
Mr Mustapha Bulama, a renown cartoonist associated with Daily Trust, shared one of the most controversial piece yet, from his work, and got plenty of people talking.
His latest cartoon depicted president Muhammadu Buhari as nothing more than a portrait occupying the number one seat, and whom we should all be expecting to address the nation’s problems.
Whatever that means however, is up for varying interpretations. But from the over a thousand comments the cartoon generated, it appears majority understood the message, and are in full agreement with Mr Bulama.
