Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere Chieftain and Nigeria Elder Statesman, has said the Southwest was deceived by President Muhammadu Buhari and Pastor Tunde Bakare back in 2007 when they promised to restructure the country if elected. Although they lost the election to late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua of the PDP, he however said since coming to power in 2015, Buhari had the chance to keep his 13 years old promise but failed to do so.
Adebanjo made the statement while responding to questions on his expectations for 2023 elections.
"How can we continue to do election under this constitution, which when they rig you, they ask you to go to court, which is already controlled? We are not babies.
"We have to go back to the constitution we had at independence, I have been saying it, but (Femi) Adesina and others have not been able to counter me. I ask, why is it difficult to go back to the constitution that Azikiwe, Bayero and Bello agreed to, is the president more educated, more enlightened and more Fulani than Sardauna?
"We campaigned for Buhari in 2007, when he promised that he was going to do restructuring, and we have published it several times, he has not denied it. He promised restructuring with Pastor Tunde Bakare, he has not denied it, he promised restructuring under this government with All Progressives Congress ((APC), he has not denied it, have they done it?"
