Just In: Former President Jonathan, gives the United States a similar advice he was given in 2015, as post election crisis looms

As United States election remains tense and contentious, former president Goodluck Jonathan, seem to have indirectly, call on President Donald Trump to concede to democratic candidate, Joe Biden, who is currently leading the poll thanks to a controversial mail-in ballots still being counted days after voting had had ended.

Jonathan who himself was under immense pressure from powers both within and outside the country to concede defeat to now president Muhammadu Buhari, back in 2015, was not a favorite of the Obama administration, and had to succumb to avoid post election crisis in the country.

Now however, as the United States is seemingly at the verge of a major crisis due to a contentious election as Trump questions the legitimacy of mail-in ballots favoring democrat candidate Joe Biden, Jonathan seem to be reciprocating the advice given to him in 2015, to concede defeat to avert a looming crisis which could bring Nigeria to a close.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the former president said, "It is better to gain honour at the cost of losing power, than to gain power at the cost of losing honor."

"Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. It is better to gain honour at the cost of losing power, than to gain power at the cost of losing honour," he said.

"At any point in time, the power of love should matter more than the love of power. This is my philosophy. I have lived it. It has brought great peace to both my beloved nation and I. And I recommend it to all leaders facing challenging situations, either in government, or at the polls, or even in their dealings with fellow political actors," he added.

Jonathan's statement cannot be said to be targeted at the United States president though, since fellow West African country, Côte d'Ivoire, which also held its presidential polls last Saturday, are also dealing with a similar situation.
