Zakariyya Aliyu Gwaram in an opinion piece published by The Herald, expressed disappointment that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to realize that nothing is working anymore in the country. He said even though it has become clear that those the president has appointed to help run his government have failed, Buhari still did not consider it right to get rid of them.
He also added that the #EndSARS protests is a wake up call that things are no longer the way they use to be as Nigerians are now taking matters into their own hands.
He said, "When the president catechized the head of services on the insurgency raining in the northeast the outcome of that “holy meeting” was “soon insurgency shall be overcome in the north” to some extend things halted but not too comforting when the story change again.
"Several attacks were carried out on civilians and sometimes on the military. The transfer of head of services to Maiduguri was a good gesture from the president nonetheless, but that wasn't enough.
"Shamelessly, Chad, a country inferior to Nigeria in almost every possible way, had to rescue some of our gallant soldiers (May the souls of soldiers lost in keeping Nigeria safe be honored by God). How did they do it? Their president doesn’t sit all day reading papers and giving languid speeches, he stood to the treat, fully focus until he overcomes.
"Buhari has had enough time to get it right since he was elected in 2015. But sadly, he seem to have run short of ideas on how to get things done.
"Baba nothing is fine! Not even the anointed ministers you took months to announced are living up to expectation.
"This is evident in the fact that the states these ministers come from are not happy with their representations.
"In fact, almost all elected leaders in the country seem unwilling to change Nigeria for the better. It is high time for the president to salvage his government instead of sitting and watching the very people who actually voted him, to continue suffering."
