How can a church be richer than a whole Nigerian government? — Adeboye tackles Buhari

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said it is not possible for a church to be richer than a government in control of a nation's treasury. He therefore, questioned the Nigerian government’s inability to effectively provide palliatives for every citizen despite the enormous resources at its disposal.

He said the logical conclusion is that the Nigerian government is corrupt and lacks sense of accountability.

Unlike the Nigerian government however, Adeboye disclosed that his church spent between N250m and N400m monthly on corporate social responsibility.

The Cleric who made the statement at the monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG Headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, also spoke on the hike in fuel and electricity prices, saying it is a sign that the government has no clue what its citizens are passing through.

He said, “To say there is not enough money to give juicy palliatives to Nigerians is an understatement because Nigeria has the money. But the problem known to everyone is corruption and lack of accountability. For example, in RCCG, we spend a substantial amount of money on corporate social responsibility of between N250m and N400m every month.”

Despite mounting pressures on the Buhari administration to reverse its decisions on subsidy, the President argues that the decision was the right one and was in the best interest of the people.

In fact, he said there is nothing unusual about his decision to end fuel subsidy, and that he was simply courageous enough to do what past administrations made much noise about, but failed to do.

He added that history would remember him as the president who embarked on a transformation of the national economy for the general good of the citizens.
