In what can be described as a move with a political undertone, by those conversant with global politics, there is however, something quite touching about Senator Shehu Sani's recent visit to the Southern part of Kaduna State where attacks against the locals have sadly become a norm.
For one, he's not the Governor, and whatever Sani seeks to benefit politically, from his love for the Southern Kaduna people, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has more to loose since he hopes to rule the country one day.
In search of peace and for an end to the bloodshed, today I visited the Headquarters of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union,SOKAPU.Consultations and unity is needed to defeat the Bandits and Terrorists. pic.twitter.com/ygra4YqOlK— Senator Shehu Sani (@ShehuSani) August 3, 2020
While El-Rufai chose to blame the victims for the attacks, the former Kaduna central senator chose to play the good guy who not only condemned the attacks, but also visited and offered touching words of solidarity.
“The people of Southern Kaduna have no any other place to go," Sani was quoted as saying.
“By simple historical and social development those Southern Kaduna is pure African Indigenous tribes.
“I am a Hausa man and I can claim to say I am from Jigaws State or Sokoto State but you Bajju you cannot. That shows the peculiarity of the Southern Kaduna people.
"Any other person can claim to come from anywhere except the people of Southern Kaduna. It is not an idea but it is the truth.
"The Southern Kaduna People have no any history that they migrated from Babylon, or Damascus. That means right from creation you have been created to be in that place.
"Continue to defend what is right and just of your people. I keep tab of everything that is going on in Southern Kaduna, I have images, videos. I have a library were I document everything.
"Those among you who will betray your cause will have no any place to go rather than to come back to you at the end of the day."
Should he fail to effectively address the concerns of the region which is predominantly occupied by Christians, and his tenure elapse, it would take something out of the ordinary to win over support from Christians across the country especially from the South, to further his presidential ambition.
