School Reopening: Keep your children at home if you don't trust government’s assurance over their safety — FG

The Federal Government has said while schools are allowed to reopen, parents are not compelled to send their children back to school at the moment especially if they're unsure about the safety of their children.

According to the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba said although the Federal Government has reopened schools for students in final year classes, parents who cannot afford to do so now should keep their wards at home.

The Minister said the Federal Government has put adequate measures in place for the safety of students and teachers in public schools across the country.

“We understand the limitations of Nigerians. Most people cannot afford laptops and devices and we know that not all our children have the same access.

“And if there are people who do have this access and who feel confident that their children are ready for these exams, nobody is compelling anybody to go to any school,” he said.

Similar assurance was given by the Buhari administration saying it was fully ready to tackle the threat of covid-19 prior to recording its index case.

Parents however, will have to decide whether or not they have confidence in the Nigerian government’s commitment toward the safety of their children in school.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases in the country is still very much on the rise. The country has recorded 790 new cases in the past 24 hours.
