PDP is so corrupt that it doesn't even know the difference between stealing and corruption — Shehu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been very critical of Buhari's anti-corruption fight saying the president himself and the APC, are corruption personified as can be seen in the travails of Nigerians in the past five years.

The PDP in a statement on Sunday, also said that revelations from the probing of suspended EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, is a clear indication that the Buhari administration stinks.

It says, “The picture is becoming clearer on how APC leaders, in the last five years, siphoned and pocketed over N14 trillion, from various government agencies, meant for the development of the nation and the welfare of Nigerians.

“From unfolding events, Nigerians are no longer in doubt that treasury looting is the official manifesto of the APC, which has now been exposed as a deceitful party that came to power by pretences and pointing of fingers at others while its real intention had always been to sweep the treasuries for their selfish gains."

But the Presidency fired back saying the PDP has no moral rights to accuse the Buhari administration of corruption. .

In a statement while fielding questions from State House reporters, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said a party that is so corrupt, that it can't even tell the difference between stealing and corruption, should be grateful that the Buhari administration is doing what it failed to do in its 16 years of corrupt government.

The presidential spokesman stated that President Buhari’s determination to end corruption in the country is responsible for the number of highly publicized charges and cases.

“The large number of cases, new and old, may appear to be daunting but PDP, which is now heckling the President, has forgotten that the party bequeathed this to the current administration. They had large number of cases they did not investigate and prosecute,” he said.

Shehu also cautioned the PDP to allow the process of investigation and prosecution to work instead of being preemptive about ongoing cases and unduly agitating the public.

He voiced hope that the Judiciary would deal with the cases swiftly and satisfactorily in a manner that would deter other would-be offenders.

“The current administration is handling many of the cases that the PDP should have dealt with and the new ones as they arise,” he said.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari, who is African Union (AU) Anti-Corruption Champion in Africa, would not fail Nigerians in the ongoing fight against graft.

He said President Buhari had assured all Nigerians that he would not be deterred by baseless criticisms by the opposition in his determination to eradicate rampant, chronic corruption.
