NDDC: It is embarrassing that Buhari still believes he is fighting corruption — Fayose

Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the National Assembly's investigation into the alleged mismanagement of N40 billion, by the Kemebradikumo Pondei-led Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Fayose in a tweet, said the manner in which the humongous level of fraud as revealed by the National Assembly investigation panel, is being treated by President Muhammadu Buhari, shows clearly that Buhari's fight against corruption is nothing more than a means of persecuting opposition figures.

He said, "With this level of fraud exposed in NDDC, Buhari must sack Akpabio now. The President can't continue to treat looting of public treasury as family affair and his fight against corruption as instrument of persecution against opposition figures.

"By keeping in his govt the likes of Akpabio and the NDDC MD,  Prof Pondei,  who went about celebrating the success of their National Assembly drama with hot pepper soup and assorted drinks, the President will only be reinforcing the conclusion that he supports corruption."

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, had on Thursday, lamented that those appointed to manage the resources of the NDDC over the years, shamelessly turn the NDDC into an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), leaving the region poor and in a very difficult situation.

He said, “Almost all throughout this period, those that he really been given the responsibility to manage the resources of the NDDC and for the people of the Niger Delta have squandered the resources leaving the region poor and in a very difficult situation."

In a resolution passed by the House following its consideration and adoption of the recommendations of its “Ad hoc Committee on the investigation of the alleged financial recklessness in the NDDC,” called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei-led Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over alleged financial recklessness.

The Senate also recommended that the NDDC, which is currently being oversighted by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, under Senator Godswill Akpabio, should be returned to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) for proper supervision.
