Villa Crisis: Aisha and children could be forced to leave presidential villa before 2023

The five unfortunate years of President Muhammadu Buhari's Presidency has been eerily eventful. There has been plenty of goofs, confusions, confrontations, corruption, carnage and cabalism.

As a matter of fact, if Nigerians are to miss something about the Buhari Presidency after 2023, it would be for all the wrong reasons.

The latest brawl in the presidential villa last week was described as shameful, utterly appalling, and a denigration of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, by folks who ordinarily should have no business being in the villa, but who somehow control the presidency of her husband. But the whole thing didn't start last week.

There has been questions over who is truly in charge of the Buhari government since it came into power in 2015. The confusion was so telling that the president (if actually he's the one at all), had to warned the media and public, against questioning his leadership style.

Buhari while on a 14 day holiday in London, refuted claims that his government has been hijacked by a cabal, and warned the public saying there cannot be anyone too powerful for him to control.

The President also warned that he would not share the powers at the Presidential Villa with anyone, and called on the media to stop attributing ‘non-existing powers to some people.

He said, “The President is in absolute control of his government. The media should stop attributing non-existent powers to some people. There cannot be anyone too powerful for President Buhari to control.”

But the current realities in the villa speaks otherwise. Nigerians are at a loss, that an existing president would watch his very own wife being turned into a punching bag by his own appointees, and not send a strong message.

This very sad situation in the villa is said to be possible either because the president is actually really dead as claimed by the President’s antagonists, or that the President's health has badly deteriorated rendering him incapable of running his own government.

We might as well, also be forced to include former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati's claim that the Villa has been turned into a spiritual museum, where demons reign Supreme.

In his article titled ‘Rituals, blood and death: The spiritual side of Aso Villa’, Abati said recent happenings in the presidency should give the citizens headache, adding that the place needs redemption urgently.

He said, "People tend to be alarmed when the Nigerian Presidency takes certain decisions. They don’t think the decision makes sense. Sometimes, they wonder if something has not gone wrong with the thinking process at that highest level of the country. I have heard people insist that there is some form of witchcraft at work in the country’s seat of government.

"I am ordinarily not a superstitious person, but working in the Villa, I eventually became convinced that there must be something supernatural about power and closeness to it."

Wife of former president Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, had claimed during a farewell church service organised in honour of President Goodluck Jonathan’s family at the Aso Villa Chapel, that she was lucky to leave the Villa alive with her husband due to strange attacks she suffered prior to the 2015 presidential election.

She said, “That campaigning time was a trial for me. Satan came in again and those that know the former president and his wife, her corpse was carried out of this place. We thank God that I and my husband are going alive,” she said in apparent reference to Olusegun Obasanjo, whose wife Stella died while he was in office as president.

“This campaign period, devil struck and came in again. In pains I was rushed to the hospital in January and the doctors told me, mama you have to go for major big operation now now. What again! the campaign was still going on and I wondered how were we going to explain to Nigerians.

“You know even when you go for check-up, they will be writing on papers saying all sorts of things. My husband will continue with his campaign crowd until the last day,” she said in reference to media reports of her health.

“That was how I went in for the first major operation in January ending. And by God’s grace I went for the operation and came out and it was from that operation that I went to the campaign ground."

Mrs. Jonathan said after the first operation, she was told she needed another one.

“And they told me mama, there is another bigger operation that you have to go in for. This one would not be in this hospital. It is too small for this type of operation. You have to go to a bigger hospital and I said ah ha,” she said, adding that two years ago when she was sick, she underwent 12 surgery’s in a space of one month.

She said the second surgery was later cancelled after doctors realised there was no need for it.

“I called my pastor to continue praying for me. They want me to be a sacrifice, but I will never be.

“Then, do you know I went to the bigger hospital. I booked for the operation and I was asked to go for the campaign. They gave me a new date. I had paid for everything remaining just to enter the theatre and the thing occurred to the hospital. Let’s check her again. By then, my husband had lost the election. I have packed out of Villa, we are about going. Behold! I went to four hospitals again and the thing had vanished. My doctors were surprised they didn’t think that could happen,” she said.

So, could it be Abati's Aso Rock demons at work again? Should things fail to improve for the Buhari administration, the odds are high that Mrs Aisha and her children could be forced to flee the Villa in the near future, or Nigerians could be greeted with the news that the president is no more should his health problems persist, and he succumbed.
