Know your priorities — Sani tells Buhari

Chief Imam of Kofar Dumi Mosque in Bauchi metropolis, Ustaz Rabi’u Shehu has said the security situation in the Northern part of the country is far worse than the current covid-19 pandemic in the country, and therefore should be alloted top priority in the scheme of things.

Sani who disclosed this in a sermon described the situation as 'intolerable', and accuse the Buhari government of abdicating its responsibility of protecting lives and properties of its citizens.

The imam also described as worrisome, the strikes by insurgents at this farming period when farmers are practically busy on their farms, thereby affecting negatively the federal government’s food security programme.

“Insurgency and criminality have continued to inflict serious damages on the lives and properties of people. Lives were made valueless in the eyes of our leaders who swore to protect them, and the security system on the land politically bastardized,” Imam Shehu lamented.

He described insurgency and criminality that have on daily bases, consumed the lives of innocent citizens as calamitous and a reminiscence of a world war.

He added that “unless these dastardly acts bedevilling the north-east and north-west are thoroughly checked, the ugly scenario will consume the entire nation.”

Similar concerns were raised by Northern Elders Forum on Sunday. The group through its leader Professor Ango Abdullahi, said In a statement on Sunday, that the north has never experienced this level of insecurity before, and accuse Buhari of issuing threats and promises that have no effect.

Abdullahi said the constant attacks by bandits and Boko Haram insurgents are indications that the Buhari administration “has failed woefully” in terms of security and welfare of citizens.

“Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is alarmed at the rising insecurity of communities and their properties in the North. Recent escalation of attacks by bandits, rustlers and insurgents leave the only conclusion that the people of the North are now completely at the mercy of armed gangs who roam towns and villages at will, wreaking havoc,” the statement read.

“It would appear that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and governors have lost control over the imperatives of protecting people of the North, a constitutional duty that they swore to uphold."
