We have made life miserable for Boko Haram — Buratai

The war against terrorism in Nigeria may not be making much headlines in recent days due to the covid-19 pandemic, this however, does not mean there's a truce between the Nigerian army and Boko Haram despite previous reports that the terror group plans to surrender.

The Nigerian Military had said it will readily accept Shekau's offer to surrender on the condition he follows the laid down procedures for surrendering during conflict or war.


"There are rumours that they are ready to surrender. If the insurgents truly want to surrender, there is a procedure to do that. If he (Shekau) surrenders through the procedure, we will accept it,” the Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General John Enenche, wasn't quoted as saying in an interview on Channels.

But, while the army awaits Shekau to give in, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Yusuf Buratai, has said the military has made life difficult for both Boko Haram and ISWAP, by inflicting massage damages to the group in the past six weeks.



Buratai who made the disclosure on Sunday, during a luncheon organised for the troops of “Operations Lafiya Dole” in Maiduguri, said the Nigerian troops have kiIIed 1,015 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the ongoing operation in Nigeria’s Northeast region which started on 12 April – about six weeks ago.

He also said a total of 84 high ranking members of Boko Haram logistics and informants were arrested within the same time frame.


“We have put concerted efforts against BHTs and ISWAP,” he said, adding that:”We have severely dealth with the BH terrorists and ISWAP.

“We have successful displaced major camps of the BHTs.

“We have kiIIed 1015 terrorists and ISWAP in the ongoing operation in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state respectively.

“We have also arrested 84 BHTs logistics and information suppliers in the ongoing operation which started 12 April, 2020,” COAS said.



He appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Air Force, Navy, Police Force, Department of State Services, Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and hunters for the resounding success against the terrorists.
