Governor Bello has been affirmed as winner of one of the worst elections in Nigeria's history

It was described as one of the worst elections ever conducted in Nigeria's history, yet in Nigeria, the word 'worst' actually means 'best'. So it definitely won't come as a surprise to Nigerians to learn that the Kogi state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja on Saturday affirmed election of Yahaya Bello as governor of Kogi State.

The Kogi State governorship election was not only marred with violence and thuggery, lives were also lost in the process. It was in fact, described as an election where "Presidency financed, Thugs decide, Police support, INEC declares, and Court affirms".

The horror of the last Kogi governorship election was not unexpected. There were many videos of thugs publicly running the show during the election like the one below, yet like that of the presidential election, video evidences aren't sufficient enough.

Former Senate President in the 8th Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, in a reaction to attacks and voter intimidation in Kogi State, said irrespective of party affiliations, violence recorded in Kogi election must be condemned.

He said, "Elections should not be a war, and political affiliations should never silence the voices of reason and peace. We must rise above party affiliations to roundly condemn the scale of violence we are seeing in Kogi State."
