It is one of those bad times for the North as fears over the spread of covid-19 continues to cause disruptions and changing the way people live.
While the Buhari administration has been up and doing to get the country out of the woods, the poor masses however, continue to bear the brunt for government's doings especially when forced to stay home without palliatives to cushion the effects.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje despite evidences that the report deaths where quite unprecedented, downplayed the issues saying such deaths aren't 'unusual'.
However, former Kano governor, Musa Kwankwaso, took matters into his own hands by writing the president requesting for an investigation into the issue to allay fears covid-19 is the culprit.
Leader of the team, Dr Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, made the disclosure in an interview with journalists in Kano during the official presentation and handing over of the mobile testing laboratory donated by Aliko Dangote Foundation to the state government, that covid-19 is responsible for spike in recent deaths especially with respect to the elderly.
According to Gwarzo: “With the preliminary report, most of the deaths recorded of recent and test carried out indicated that coronavirus is the cause.
“Hence, before the final report which would be ready in the next one week or few days, it is necessary for people of the state to wake up from their slumber that this is a serious issue at hand.”
But it appears Kano State is not the only northern state recording high number of unusual deaths.
The report also said unlike, Ganduje of Kano State who dilly-dalled, the Jigawa state government under Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, acted swiftly by establishing a five-person committee to investigate the deaths and advise the authorities as appropriate.
Abba Zakari pointed out that the committee are expected to submit their reports within three days.
