JUST IN: Boko Haram caught Modu Sheriff's convoy by surprise, leaving casuaIties behind

It appears previous reports claiming Boko Haram are all but done over with, may have been skewed as new report emerges that the te*ror group has atta¢ked the convoy carrying the family of a former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Friday.

Security sources disclosed that the group atta¢ked the convoy while traveling from Abuja to Maiduguri to attend the three-day prayer of Sheriff’s Iate father, Alhaji Galadima Modu, who passed on following a fire outbreak at his residence in Maiduguri on Thursday.


“Boko Haram launched an attta¢k on the convoy carrying the family of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former governor of Borno State, from Abuja to Maiduguri to attend the buriaI of his Iate father.

“Three policemen, a driver and one member of his family were unable to survive the atta¢k while several others were lnjured.




“The te*rorists also went away with the riffIes of the victims and some cars in the convoy,” one security source said.

According to Sahara, two of the policemen who died are Corporal Mustapha Inusa and Corporal Abubakar Idris.



The atta¢k comes days after the Nigerian Defence Headquarters disclosed that Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect, may soon surrender.

DHQ had stated that the body language of Shekau after so much military offensive on the insurgents lately showed that he would soon “throw in the towel”.

The Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General John Enenche, disclosed this on Friday during an interview on Channels TV “Shekau’s recently released videos are subjected to forensic analysis.

"There are rumours that they are ready to surrender. If the insurgents truly want to surrender, there is a procedure to do that. If he (Shekau) surrenders through the procedure, we will accept it,” he said.



Sheriff has been accused in some quarters of being responsible for the emergence of Boko Haram in Borno State before spilling to other parts of the North where their vioIent campaign has claimed thousands of Iives and displaced millions.
