Rising cases of covid-19 despite initial measures put in place to halt the spread in the country, has forced State Governors to take further action in order to keep the contagious disease at bay.
According to Fayemi, the latest move by the State governors had become necessary following a continued rise in number of infected persons and fatalities across the country.
The the new inter-state lockdown is expected to last for two weeks to further curb the spread of Coronavirus.
The Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, had previously disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari take tougher decisions next week as the country battles the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Whether or not the move by State Governors to halt inter-state movement is part of the 'tougher' decision expected from the president next week, is unclear. However, the NCDC boss said Nigerians should brace up for 'tougher directives' that the federal government would put in place to tackle the spread of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, total covid-19 cases in the country has increased by 91 in the past 24 hours and now stands at 873, 197 discharge, and 28 deaths.
