Sultan of Sokoto and leader of Nigeria's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed disappointment over the creation of Operation 'Shege ka-fasa' by a group known as the 'Northern Youth Coalition', saying it should never have been allowed to happen.

The Sultan who has been critical of Northern elites, said allowing the group to proceed with the plan, is the sort of carelessness and lack leadership qualities exhibited by the elites which is the reason youths in the North to do whatever they want.
He said, “The Northern Youth Coalition just created their own security outfit with just two or three vehicles and the elders allowed the youths to go forward. That is why I said the elite are our problems. The elders are our problems. If the elders do not take the lead, the youths will do whatever they like and think they are right. You have to caution this youths by giving them good leadership.”
Meanwhile in an earlier statement, the Sultan said the North has solutions to its many problems, but again, bad leadership is the reason the region continues to be backward compared to the South.
He said, “We have lots of documents from several meetings and conferences submitted to the leaders and they have gone into the shelves. We have the solutions to the northern problems.
“Agreed, it is not possible to solve all the problems at once, so, we can do it in phases. But I must say, we do not lack the solutions, what we lack is implementation and honesty. We are not honest with ourselves and if we are not honest, we will continue to suffer the consequences.”
The Sultan has also at the 45th anniversary of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, in Zaria, Kaduna State, called on leaders in the country to 'empathize' with the masses over the current hardship in the land.
He said, “We are calling on our leaders to sympathise more with the masses. Everyone knows that we are in difficult times. There is nothing that is above Allah’s powers. Ours is to continue to pray and we are praying for our leaders. People of Zazzau, you should brace up and pray for the president, Kaduna State governor and other leaders at all levels. You shouldn’t leave us to our abilities and capacities, we need your prayers to succeed.”
