Get along or quit — Sani tells Monguno, says Buhari knows exactly what is going on

If you're one of those who still believe that President Muhammadu Buhari takes your safety seriously, then you'll have to think again. Unless of course, you know more than Buhari's National security adviser, Babagana Monguno.

Monguno in a December 9, 2019, letter, which somehow made it to the public recently, accused Buhari's Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari of heavily influencing the President, and even giving out directives to service chiefs without the knowledge much less approval of the president. He described Kyari's interference on national security matters as 'undue and dangerous'.

While Monguno's memo is quite revealing, there's nothing particularly surprising since Nigerians had before now, claimed that the Buhari administration has been hijacked by a cabal, thus raising the question of who exactly, Nigerians voted for, and who is actually governing the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in the preceding year while on a 14 day holiday in London, played down claims of his government been hijacked by a cabal warning that there cannot be anyone too powerful for him to control.

The President also warned that he would not share the powers at the Presidential Villa with anyone, and called on the media to stop attributing ‘non-existing powers to some people.

He said, “The President is in absolute control of his government. The media should stop attributing non-existent powers to some people. There cannot be anyone too powerful for President Buhari to control.”

However, frequent cIashes and misunderstandings in the villa only seem to justify the claims that Buhari is far from being in control of his government. Monguno's recent memo only add more credence to the claims. Besides, what would you make of a president who said he is shocked over escalating insecurity in the country he governs?

If you are one of those harboring doubts over Monguno's claim that Buhari is unaware of some directives issued to the nation's security chiefs by his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, then you're in good company with Senator Shehu Sani.

The former Kaduna Senator said in a cryptic tweet, that Buhari's failure to question the actions of his Chief of Staff, is a clear sign of his approval contrary to Monguno's claims. He therefore, advised the national security adviser to either get along, or quits.

He said, "If the Field MashaIl is silent or neural or indifferent to the petition written by General Grema against General Gana, then it should be understood that all of General Gana’s action is done with the consent of the Field MashaIl. General Grema should read the signs, kow tow or quit."

There's so much going on in Buhari's government than meets the eye. What's more troubling however, is the fact that Nigerian are taken for granted by an administration Professor Wole Soyinka said is full of nonsense.
