It was a reception to forget for president Muhammadu Buhari following his recent sympathetic visit to Borno State on Wednesday.
The President's visit was announced by his media aide, Garba Shehu in a tweet saying Buhari has arrived Maiduguri from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he attended the Thirty-third (33rd) Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
The President whose visit could be seen as a positive one, may have expected his arrival would paint the town red, but was instead, greeted by a people deeply wounded, that loyalty, religion and region wasn't enough reason to throw a party for a man they once thought was the chosen one.
A report by Daily Trust said residents of the metropolis, who learned about the President's arrival, came out early and lined up on both sides of the road along the airport way. But they were not the usual praise singers Buhari used to know, they were there to expressed their disapproval over Buhari's failure to address the security issues he promised them during his campaign trail.
The report said President Muhammadu Buhari was booed all the way with shoutings of ‘Ba ma so’ in Hausa, renting the air. The words which means ‘we don’t like it’ in English, was a clear message by the angry residents that Buhari is no longer welcomed in the State.
The President however, said he remained determined to ending insecurity in the State, but how he intends to do so, is anyone's guess.
Meanwhile the terrorist group has responded to the President's visit by attacking yet another area, Jiddari Polo, in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, according to a recent report.
