I will make amends before I leave this world — Obasanjo speaks of his past

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has expressed sadness over his failure to live up to expectation despite all that God has done for him. The former Military and democratic President recounted how God brought him up out of nowhere, and exalted him to the highest position in the country twice, and feels he could have done better.

He however, said he is ready to make amends while he's still alive, so that God can be merciful unto him.

He said this during a thanksgiving service organised by the Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Thursday.

He said, “God has done a lot for me. I want to do things that will make God show His Mercy on me. I can’t lie to God.

“The village where I was born is so small that no matter how large you make the map of Nigeria, Ibogun-Olaogun will never appear.

“And yet, somebody born in that village of pure illiterate parents will have the opportunity that I have now to reach the stage that I have reached, to be used to achieve whatever I have been used to achieve, I cannot thank God enough.

“I always say this, whatever I have achieved, whatever I have done, I thank God because it is not me alone, there are those who have worked with me, some of them are dead, some of them are still alive and without them, I will not have been able to achieve much.”

Obasanjo is said to be one of high profile leaders in the country who know more about the history of the country, and are well placed to proffer solutions capable of repositioning a country currently out of position of greatness.

Obasanjo has been vocal through his criticism of former president Goodluck Jonathan, and now, the Buhari he once thought was the right man for the job. Perhaps, all these efforts by the former president, is part of amends he's trying to make while he still lives.
