We all know that not everyone is happy with the formation of operation Amotekun by Southwest Governors who felt President Muhammadu Buhari hasn't done enough to guarantee the safety of the region from the activities of bandits, k*ller herdsmen, Kidnappers and other security challenges facing the region.
The first to express concern over the latest development is non other but the Northerners themselves.
A group under the aegis of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), was first to condemn the establishment of Amotekun calling it a threat to national peace and security, and that it is no different from IPOB, a group already proscribed by the Buhari administration.
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), also voiced their concern saying should its members be targeted, it would fight back.
The purpose of establishing Amotekun has been well stated but for it to become a subject of controversy and national concern, says much about the current state Nigeria's unity.
MACBAN has already made their point clear by suggesting Amotekun was established with herdsmen in mind. Guilty conscience?
The timing itself speaks volume! The Southwest itself, also felt threatened by invasive herders who can hardly be seen as friendly. Has anyone forgotten in a hurry, the demages done by herdsmen across the MiddleBelt with MACBAN and the President waving "well played"? As a matter of fact, MACBAN on many occasions, issued statements justifying attacks by its members against innocent villagers, rather than issuing condemnations.
Nigerians were also left in utter shock when President Buhari announced that visa will no longer be required when entering the country. This is coming at a time the country is experiencing one of its worst security problems in history.
The only explanation for this outrageously dangerous policy by the Buhari administration according to critics, is to allow free flow of dangerous elements from neighboring African countries into Nigeria for no reason but to aid a secret plot of domination.
Fani-Kayode who is from the Southwest and fully supports the creation of Amotekun, described the visa-free policy as 'dangerous, self-serving and self-seeking'. He said the policy if allowed to stand, will spell doom for a country already on a life-support.
"The Fulanis of north and west Africa, rejected and unwanted elsewhere, have finally been given what they wanted all along: a homeland of their own. They will flood Nigeria in their millions and within 5 years our demographics will change forever, ' the former Aviation Minister said on facebook.
He continued, "Simply put, a visa-free policy for Africans to come into Nigeria is a shameless and subtle attempt to alter the racial and religious demographics of our country and open our front door for mass Fulani, Berber, Taureg and Arab migration into our shores.
"By the time they come here from all over north and west Africa and settle down, we the indigenous people of Nigeria will be a tiny minority. The next thing they will do is to implement RUGA to the letter and take our land and insist on sharia law being implemented all over the country.
"It is a dangerous, self-serving and self-seeking policy which will ultimately result in great conflict, carnage, racial and religious strife and total catastrophy. In an attempt to implement an ancient agenda of Fulani hegemony and turn us into a conquered and enslaved people Buhari, his born to rule co-travellers and their vast legion of slavish sympathisers and supporters are likely to set Nigeria on fire."
Does that give a clue to why the North feels threatened by a security outfit that has no proximity whatsoever, to the core North?
Since MACBAN feels threatened by a security outfit that is exclusive to the Southwest, it is a no-brainer that the Fulani's number one patron who happens to be Nigeria's President, will certainly feel threatened. Will the Buhari administration then be expected to oppose Amotekun? It would be strange if the president turns a blind eye.
While it is unclear what the president’s position is on the subject, it isn't in his nature to go against his kinsmen, which makes it all the more likely, that he is against the Southwest security outfit. Should that be the case, Gen. Babangida may have just aided the president on what to do, by identifying an issue he thinks would make it difficult for Amotekun to survive in the long run.
The General in his reaction, sees finance as an issue that would sooner or later, crumbles the newly established security outfit since the South western States might be subjected to financial pressure due to revenue shortfalls among other issues, unless of course, they found a way to fund the security outfit efficiently without relying heavily on federal allocations.
While this might not mean much, you just have to look at Nigeria under the leadership of Emperor Buhari, and you'd quickly realized that he wields so much power and acts with impunity. If indeed the issue identified by Babangida turns out to be a potential threat to the survival of Amotekun, then President Buhari certainly knows where to hit.
