Stop talking anyhow — Sani advices Adesina

President Muhammadu Buhari has been reminded that Nigeria is not isolated from the International community, and therefore, should be mindful of his response to the EU and US whose attention was drawn by recent abuse of power by the Buhari administration, particularly, the unlawful invasion and re-arresting of Omoyele Sowore within the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the journalist was standing trial.

The re-arresting of Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS) barely twenty four hours after his release on bail, has sparked outrage and condemnation by both local and international rights activists.

The Buhari administration has been accused of human rights violation and desecration of the nation's judiciary through its recent invasion of the Federal High Court, and refusal to obey court orders.

In its recent publication where it said it would henceforth address president Muhammadu Buhari as 'General Buhari', the Punch News Media said Buhari has all the powers to fix the anomalies and misconducts of security agencies under his watch, but fail to do so, thus will be held accountable.

Two US Senators had called on the Buhari administration to quit its act of lawlessness, noting that, “respect for the rule of law, judicial independence, political and media freedom, and due process are key tenets of democracy.”

The United Kingdom has also shown interest in recent developments in the country especially the unlawful rearrest of Sowore by the DSS.

Reacting in a tweet through its High Commission in the country on Tuesday, the UK Government called on Buhari to respect the rule of law as regards Sowore's case.

It said in a tweet, "We are following closely the continued detention of #Sowore.

"Respect for the rule of law and free and responsible speech are fundamental for #democracy."

However, an adamant Buhari administration warned the US and Uk from sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.

Speaking in an interview with Channels, Buhari's spokesman, Femi Adesina, said, “We are not answerable to either the U.S. or the UK or the EU; we are Nigeria, a sovereign country."

He added, “Those countries and entities have issues of their own; let them deal with their issues. Let Nigeria also deal with her internal issues. We are not answerable to them.”

But Senator Shehu Sani begs to differ, saying Buhari cannot run around seeking loans and aids from the International community, but shamelessly tells them to stay off Nigeria's internal wrangles.

He said, "EU and US: You don’t want their counseling but you want their aid, loans and Investments."

Sowore is still in detention despite court orders and calls demanding for his release, and the Buhari administration's unwillingness to heed to calls to respect the rule of law, shows how far it has derailed.
