Sowore/DSS: You will pay for it! — Ezekwesili tells Buhari

With mobile phones visibly used to record the chaotic scenes within the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside the presence of journalists, the conduct of Nigeria's highly respected security agency, has once again, showed that in Buhari's Nigeria, democracy is a mirage.

Yesterday, December 6th, 2019, saw the Nigerian judiciary officially reduced to a piece of junk when a judge had to flee for her life during court proceedings, following attempts by the DSS to rearrest Omoyele Sowore who had been released by the same agency hours prior, in response to a 24 hours ultimatum given by the court.

The Nigerian Bar Association in its reaction said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kunle Edun, that it considers the conducts of the DSS as an 'exhibition of primitivity, thuggery, insane passion for lawlessness, contempt and disrespect for the rule of law'.

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Fani Kayode, and foreign rights activists have all condemned the invasion of a competent court in the country, and disruption of court proceedings in a manner reminiscent of military dictatorship.

Oby Ezekwesili has also reacted, reminding President Muhammadu Buhari that the world is watching, and that he'll pay for the misconduct of agencies under his watch at the appropriate time.

He said, "President Muhammadu Buhari , the whole world is watching the video of officials of the State Security Service which you directly supervise, brutally violate the constitutional rights of a citizen @YeleSowore inside a court and desecrated our Judiciary- an independent arm of government.

"Let it also be known by @MBuhari that the cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of the power he wields today as @NGRPresident is alien to our Nigerian Constitution and International Law. I advise the President to cease this descent to fascism immediately and #RespectCourtOrder.

"It is in the interest of @MBuhari that @YeleSowore comes to no form of bodily, mental or emotional harm.

"As the supervisor of the State Security Service, I demand that the President instructs the DG to immediately comply with the court order. Release Sowore immediately."

Meanwhile, calls demanding the immediate suspension of the Director-General of Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, were also made by the NBA and rights activists. Former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has also called for an investigation in the conduct of DSS in its invasion of the Abuja High Court.

With Bichi belied to be acting on instructions from above, it is very safe to say that calls demanding Bichi's suspension is an exercise in futility.
