Insecurity: We failed — Lai Mohammed admits

The Buhari administration has admitted it failed Nigerians in the area of security despite making efforts to combat insecurity in the country.

The admission was made by Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, on Monday in Ikeja, Lagos State, while addressing a press conference on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

He said, “Security of lives and property has remained a priority of this administration, hence the tremendous improvement that has been witnessed in fighting terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other acts of criminality.

"It was indeed a challenging year in terms of insecurity, but the federal government faced the challenge squarely to cancel doomsday predictions from the political opposition and their allies.

“The fight against insecurity was boosted by the border drill, which curtailed access to weapons by terrorists and other criminals.”

2019 has seen a surge in the activities of kidnappers, bandits and a rejuvenated Boko Haram who recently shared a video showing the execution of 10 Christian men said to have been captured by the terrorist group in the past weeks.

The recent video sparked outrage as it reminds Christians in the country of a similar attack on innocent Nigerians on Christmas eve in 2016. Despite a massive casualty from the 2016 attack, the Buhari administration failed to do justice to the affected community.
