Breaking: Buhari, Senate clash over new visa policy

The recently announced visa policy by President Muhammadu Buhari in Egypt a few days ago, has generated a lot of controversy with critics saying the policy, if allowed to stand, could spell doom for a country already struggling with myriads of security challenges.

Former Aviation Minister Fani Kayode in particular, has described the new development as 'dangerous, self-serving and self-seeking'. He said the policy if allowed to stand, will spell doom for a country already on a life-support.

"It is a dangerous, self-serving and self-seeking policy which will ultimately result in great conflict, carnage, racial and religious strife and total catastrophy," Kayode said in a facebook post.

He added, "With this irresponsible, unpatriotic, dangerous and self-serving policy, I repeat, we are playing with fire and sitting on a keg of gunpowder which will eventually explode. It will be the final nail in the coffin of a united Nigeria."

And now the Nigerian Senate has picked issues with the new policy, accusing the president for sidestepping the Senate to announce the new policy while outside the country.

The Senate according to PUNCH, has therefore, summoned the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over the new visa on arrival policy announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Aregbesola is to appear before the Senate alongside the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede.

This was sequel to a point of order raised by the lawmaker representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Olubunmi Adetunmbi.

The lawmaker had drawn the attention of his colleagues to the fact that the executive did not carry the legislature along before the implementation of the policy.

President Buhari announced the new policy in Egypt days ago while attending an event in the county.
