The people of Kogi State are only a few days away from deciding whether or not Governor Yahaya Bello stays or leaves office in the upcoming governorship election in the state.
At this crucial time as the people head to the polls in just a few days, every little move toward boosting each candidate's chance or winning, is most welcomed.
The Christian body said it is not partisan and does not support any candidate or party for the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship polls this weekend.
In a statement in Abuja by its Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Barr. Kwamkur Vondip, CAN said, “The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has taken notice of a picture of the CAN President Rev. Dr Samson Ayokunle, Kogi State CAN Chairman and Governor Yahaya Bello making the rounds in the social media where it was painted as if the CAN President went to the Governor at this period of electioneering campaign to pray for his re-election into office as Governor of Kogi State.
“Let it be known right away that those behind this cheap propaganda are glaringly mischievous individuals who do not mean well for the church and Nigeria.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Yahaya Bello sometimes in July, 2019 proposed to lay the foundation of the first ever Chapel at the Government House so that the Christians in the Government House might have a place of worship just as their Muslim counterpart.
“For any person to bring up the picture at this critical period of elections and paint it as prayers for the reelection of the Governor shows the extend of mischief and desperation by the individuals behind it.
“We call on all Christians and indeed well meaning Nigerians to disregard any information purported to emanate from CAN on the forth coming elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States”.
