Former President Goodluck Jonathan |
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may be suspended from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his alleged romance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) which contributed to the defeat of his party in last Saturday’s governorship election in his home state of Bayelsa. Daily Trust reports
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, had defeated Duoye Diri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the Bayelsa governorship election.
The APC polled 352,552 while PDP secured 143,170 votes, leaving a margin of 209,382.
Jonathan was reportedly played host to leaders of the APC led by the Minister of state for Petroleum, Timipre Silva after the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had declared David Lyon winner of the governorship election.
This did not go down well with some members of the PDP as many alleged that the former president worked against the party in favor of the APC in the state.
Reacting to the alligations, Jonathan said that as a former president and a former Governor of the state, he remains a father to all adding that his doors are always open to all citizens irrespective of political affinity.
He concluded by advising David Lyon, the APC candidate, who emerged victorious during the poll to focus on delivering his campaign promises to the people of the state now that the election is over.
“As a former President of Nigeria, I am a father to all Bayelsans, hence my doors are open to all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations. I urge you to make the welfare of Bayelsans a top priority and carry all Bayelsans along irrespective of the party they voted for.
“Elections are over now, so I want you to see yourself as the Governor of all Bayelsans and not only to the sections that voted for you. This is the way to move Bayelsa forward.” he said
