Bayelsa: Ex-president Jonathan returned home after arriving at an empty polling unit

Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan was greeted with an empty polling unit when he stepped out on Saturday to cast his vote in the ongoing Bayelsa State governorship election.

According to report by Legit, the former president arrived his polling unit in Otuoke at about 8:19 am, but found no INEC staff around except a handful of journalists waiting for the officials to arrive and commence the process.

The former president was reportedly visibly displeased and expressed his displeasure after which he returned home as he await the officials to arrive.

On arrival, Jonathan who thought of Legit's reporter to be an electoral officer, asked, “Are you an electoral officer,” before adding; “where are they?”

“Well... this is where I will vote, but since they’re not here yet, let me go back inside.”

“You see now, youths of nowadays, you need to do more,” he said before walking out of the center.

Meanwhile in our previous report, former INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega faulted the country's electoral process saying its full of bugs. He said the current electoral process in the country needs to be improved otherwise, the country will continue to move in circles of voting in the wrong people into power.

He said, “It is generally recognised that fortifying democracy is vital to sustainable development, but what is not as widely acknowledged is that improving the integrity of elections is key to democratic development.

“The Nigerian electoral process has historically been flawed and repleted with profound challenges in all three key phases of electoral administration pre-election, election and post-election phases.

He added that nothing supercedes citizens’ trust and confidence in the electoral process.
